long weekend in sevilla

sevilla… sevilla… sevilla

my first day at school in madrid… i met a girl at a round table who told me she was going to “seville” this weekend, and i should join (turns out when you go to school abroad, everyone is looking for plans just like you (what a relief am i right !!!)) what did i know about “seville”…nada!!!  what did i know about my new friend at school …nada!!! in typical me fashion, we purchased tickets that night…

fast forward from lunes a viernes at 5:30am, and i began my journey to madrid atocha (the big train station here, or el tren rapido… as my uber called it)… we didn’t purchase seats together, because we didn’t realize the whole concept of “assigned seats” is mandatory, but also mainly because when you’re abroad 5 euros extra is a stretch… seriously …

like little turtles (with our backpacks carrying all our stuff for the weekend…) we made our way from the train station to plaza nueva (one of the main plazas in sevilla)… orange trees !!! cannot stress this enough! the trees in sevilla are literally exploding with oranges! and i happen to be obsessed with them (it’s the little things, guys) !!! consequently, my camera roll is now exploding with pics of orange tress too !!!

our first stop was la catedral de sevilla …where our excitement was drowned out by our 6am wake up call, and we decided gelato and a nap was the only fix (my diet in sevilla consisted mainly of sampling the city’s gelato). in short, the cathedral is the largest gothic church in the world (enormous), and gorgeous inside, and really really reallllllly old, and the tomb of christopher columbus is there… (there is a TON of history to sevilla, like since 8th century b.c. founded by julius caesar history)… if you’re as nerdy as me, sevilla is the place for you !!!!!

next stop… Guadalquivir (had to look this name up), but it is a river that runs through sevilla (also where all the gold and silver came into spain from south america, seriously i’m full of random facts ahora)… anyway, it is so so pretty… like a literal dream at sunset (or anytime of day) and you should go, and get yummy tapas, and shop around the tiny streets, and enjoy your life!!!

sevilla was also my first hostel experience, and i’m pretty sure the most ideal situation in the world! it was so bomb, and i don’t think a lot of people say that about hostels… they offered a free walking tour and a million other free things (pub crawl), and like the extra studious gals we are… we walked for 3 hours around sevilla on saturday. I LEARNED SO MUCH… that i won’t bore you with, but the tour guide was super cute, and it was free, and you should better yourself and learn things!!! 10/10 recommend, promise. like i said, sevilla is not only the dreamiest place in the world, but also packed with incredible things that took place there (i feel like a mom saying this) …

el barrio de santa cruz is the old jewish neighborhood (the featured image of this post)… and it is adorable (spanish towns are way too good)… the view from the metropol parasol is probably incredible (we went… walked around it… didn’t realize you could go up… ya live and ya learn)… we went to a flamenco show also… flamenco started somewhere in spain (a lot of towns claim it)… but it was incredible, and you should at least see it once!

sevilla… sevilla… sevilla

was such a nice break from the city (ha…i’d been in madrid 12 days when we left)… and the girl at the round table, G, and i have become so close!!! this is something not a lot of people mention about studying abroad… not only do you get to experience the best places but also the greatest friends (fast) !!!!!!!!

cheers to my next adventure!
